Newport Rotary’s Newport Winter Carnival Pancake Breakfast

Newport Rotary held our Pancake Breakfast on February 10, 2018. It was a great success serving an estimated 250 hungry pancake eaters during a three hour period. Thank you to all those that came out to support Newport Rotary and have a great time.

A special thanks to the Newport Jiffy Mart, Woodlawn Care Center, Summercrest and Stetson’s (real maple syrup) for their donations helping to make our pancake breakfast a great treat. Also, thank you to Ass’t District Governor, David Saturley, the group from Orion House and all the Rotarians and friends who volunteered their time and efforts.

See you next February for another Winter Carnival Pancake Breakfast.

Newport Rotary’s Teachers’ Mini Grant Program

Started in 2017, our Newport Rotary Club began a new a new program which awards annual mini grants to Newport grade 9-12 teachers for programs which are needed  in the Newport School District. There are a maximum number of grants awarded each year with a maximum of $1,000.00 per grant.

Thirteen applications were submitted for our 2018 grants. We have worked on going through the applications to find the most qualified ones. The winning grants were announced on May 1. Thank you to all of the applicants who have worked so hard putting together their requests.

We are happy to be able to give back to the community again this year.

Four Way Speech Contest

Congratulations to this year’s Newport Rotary Four Way Speech Contest winner, Olivia Rasmussen and three runners up, Kaitlin Carroll, Victoria Burroughs and Alex Whipple. As always all four students gave excellent talks on  topics which had to include the Rotary Four Way Test of 1) Is it the truth, 2) Is it fair to all concerned, 3) Will it build good will and better friendships and 4) Will  it be beneficial to all concerned.

Unfortunately because of a prior commitment Olivia was unable to attend the semi finals in Henniker on May 6. Fortunately, Kaitlin went in her place ably represented our club. Although she did not finish in the top four of the 14 speakers that day she still made us proud to have sponsored her. I think she will be back next year and be even better.

Thank you to all the students who took the time  and made the effort to participate in this year’s Newport Rotary Four Way Speech Contest.

Newport Rotary Ski Day has come to an end

After 50 years the Newport Rotary Ski Day and McCrillis Cup Race has come to an end. We have enjoyed the friendship and comradery of all the Rotary clubs and Rotarians who have joined us over the years. Unfortunately the interest and participation waned and we decided to call it quits.

Thank you to all who joined us over those 50 great years.

Flowing Forms Yoga

Thanks to Joe Theriault from Flowing Forms Yoga for talking to us about Yoga and its benefits.

Joe and his business partner Angie Follensbee-Hall opened Flowing Forms Yoga here in Newport, back in June 2013.

Joe reminded/informed us that Yoga is not just for women and that the benefits are more than just physical.   There are all different types and levels of yoga too so its perfect for everyone!

Check out the studio on their webpage for all class offerings and events!
